Many of Newton’s notebooks or memos are registered in a digital archive in the digital library at the University of Cambridge. While reading one of his notebooks, I was drawn to a particularly beautiful G. It was not concerning Newton’s famous Law of Universal Gravitation, but rather a G within the phrase “beer with Ginger instead of Hops,.” The phrase demonstrates that Newton, who achieved monumental accomplishments with his research, also maintained a perspective rooted in daily life. From gravity to ginger, his spectrum is indeed wide.

Born 1977, Toyama. Tamura holds a doctoral degree from the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts, and a Bachelor’s degree of Photography from Nihon University. He was a guest researcher for the Institut für Raumexperimente at the Berlin University of the Arts (2013-14). Currently he lives and works in Kyoto, Japan. Selected recent exhibitions in Japan and overseas are Milky Mountain (Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, 2019), The Seven Lamps of The Art Museum (Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Hiroshima, 2019), Where am I ? (Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design, Toyama, 2019), Roppongi Crossing (Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, 2019), The Fabric of Felicity (Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, 2019), Hell Scream (Kyoto City University of Arts Art Gallery @KCUA, Kyoto, 2018), Busan Biennale 2018 and Nissan Art Award 2017.
