Nobuyuki Osaki

Departing from his interest in the world around him and how it is perceived, Nobuyuki Osaki has been exploring how to express “uncertainty of reality”. Through unique materials and production methods he developed, he has been posing questions on the fictionality and reality of society by using the phenomenon and the process of the “disappearance of images”. In recent years, reflecting on how the prediction of the future or the past events are assumed as “reality”, he has produced works that profoundly examine the ambiguity of images as well as memory and time, and trigger feelings of vagueness or nostalgia.

Born 1975, Osaka. Osaki received a BFA in Print Making from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1998, and a MFA from Graduate School of Kyoto City University of Arts in 2000. Recent exhibitions include Noemi Weber/ Nobuyuki Osaki (Ludwig Forum Aachen, Germany, 2017), CONSTELLATIONS: Practice for Unseen Connections/ Discoveries (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 2015), VOCA 2013 (honorable mention/ Ueno Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, 2013), The Position 2012 (Nagoya City Art Museum, Aichi, 2012), NEW PHASES in CONTEMPORARY PAINTING – A Curator’s Message 2012 (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Kobe, 2012), and Haut. Mythos und Medium (Kunsthaus, Hamburg, 2011).
